Na'ama Scheftelowitz, Curator

Pottery is the archaeologist's bread and butter. Much of our chronology and understanding of culture and historical process is in some way dependent on an understanding of pottery—how it differs from region to region and how it changes over time.

The collection, primarily intended as a teaching tool, includes several hundreds intact vessels from archaeological periods up to the end of the Iron Age (circa 600–500 BCE). The great majority of forms in use during these periods are housed in glass
showcases at the Institute and are organized chronologically. An extensive collection of sherds, which are what archaeologists usually encounter in the field, is also available.

The study collection may be seen by appointment with Na'ama Scheftelowitz.
