The TAU administration wishes friends and supporters a Happy and Healthy New Year.
The Joseph Kasierer Institute for Research in Accounting at the Faculty of Management - Leon Recanati Graduate School of Business Administration held a seminar marking two years to the passing of TAU honorary doctor Joseph Kasierer. An address in his memory was delivered by Dr. Yossi Bachar, Partner and Director of Leibowitz Kasierer - Arthur Andersen. Mr. Ilan Biran, Managing Director of Bezeq, delivered a lecture entitled "The Political and Security Situation and Its Repercussions on the Israeli Economy - An Estimation of the Situation," and Prof. Itzhak Swary, Director of the Institute, spoke on "Financial Statements Adjusted for Inflation - Should We Continue with Them?" .
Dr. Natalie Hahn, Senior Private Sector Advisor, the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships visited the TAU campus and met with Prof. Baruch Epel, Director of the Manna Institute for Plant Biosciences; Prof. Zev Levin, Head of the Porter School of Environmental Studies; Prof. Yehoshua Anikster, former Director of the Cereal Crops Improvement Institute; and Prof. Mordechai Sokolov, former Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Technological Analysis and Forecasting. They were hosted to lunch by TAU Vice President Yehiel Ben-Zvi. .
Forty North American college students spent three weeks at Tel Aviv University in the EMET (Education, Middle East and the Truth) program conducted within the framework of the Ellin Mitchell Hillel Program, directed by Rabbi Shmuel Bowman. The intensive lecture and seminar program funded by Leonard Abramson of Florida educated students leaders on the situation in Israel and advised them how to bring the Israeli agenda to the forefront of campus activism and awareness. .
A reception was held at the Marcelle Gordon University Club in honor of Moshe Porath, outgoing Chairman of TAU's Executive Council. A scholarship has been established in his name in appreciation of his outstanding service to the University.
The Ofair Hall for Distance Learning and Video Conferences in memory of Ofair Razin, son of Prof. Assaf Razin, was inaugurated at the Eitan Berglas School of Economics. Addresses were delivered by Dov Lautman, Chairman of TAU's Executive Council; Prof. Susan M. Collins, Georgetown University and Brookings Institution, USA; Prof. Efraim Sadka, Berglas School; and Prof. Gideon Langholz, Dean of the Fleischman Faculty of Engineering. A lecture entitled "A Comment on the 'Psychology' of Economy and Psychology" was delivered by Prof. Ariel Rubinstein of the School. Coordinator of the event was Prof. Zeev Segal of the School of Government and Policy.
Clal Industries and Investments and Clal Biotechnology Industries have invested $2 million in the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at TAU. The investment is being carried out through a consortium of companies created by Tel Aviv University to finance the Center's establishment.
COMING EVENTS
The Fifth North American Conference, Educating Minds - Building Leadership, will be held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York from October 11-14, 2001.
The European Meeting will be held in St. Moritz, Switzerland, from January 24-28, 2002.
The 2002 Annual Board of Governors Meeting will take place from May 24-31, 2002.
